Kigali - Gisenyi

After arrival in Kigali, spend the rest of the morning exploring the city, known for its pleasant and friendly atmosphere. Explore the Kimironko Market and Caplaki handicrafts cooperative. Lunch in the city’s Muslim quarters.
This afternoon, pay your respects to the victims of the 1994 Rwandan genocide against the Tutsi, learning about this somber chapter of the country’s past at the Kigali Genocide Memorial. (L, D)

Today, make the journey through the land of a thousand hills to the town of Gisenyi, on the edge of Lake Kivu. On the way, stop at the Imbabzi Centre, an orphanage, nursery school and farm set up after the genocide. Continue on to your hotel, and have lunch on the edge of the lake.
In the afternoon visit the nearby Kinunu Coffee Washing Station and sample some of Rwanda’s best coffee while learning all about the process from the bean to the cup. (B,L,D)

This morning, take a boat out on to Lake Kivu, and take in the surrounding scenery, from the birds, the Congolese volcanoes and the local fishermen.
Transfer back to Kigali in time for your flights home. (B)
