CANADA - EUROPE
You board the transatlantic flight from your respective
departure cities |
Day 02
|
ARRIVE - ROME
After arrival in the eternal city transfer to the hotel
and time at leisure before dinner |
Day 03
|
ROME
Morning sightseeing tour of this town full of art treasures
and history - we visit the Vatican and enjoy a panoramic
tour including the Colosseum and the Piazza Venezia - then
we have a leisurely walking tour to the Trevi Fountain
and the Piazza Navona before dinner |

Day 04
|
ROME
In the morning we head to the ocean and visit the beachtowns
of Anzio and Nettuno, where the Americans landed - inland
we pass by Roca di Papa, Castel Gandolfo and Frascati on
our way to Tivoli, just east of Rome, the Old Romans' spa
- after visiting the Villa d'Este with its beautiful gardens
we enjoy an early dinner in a nice setting before returning
to Rome |
Day 05
|
ROME - PALERMO - AGRIGENTO
Transfer to the airport for the flight to Sicily this
morning. After arriving we visit Palermo and then drive
to Monreale with its beautiful cathedral from the 12th
century - then we continue on to Mondello, a typical fishing
village in the area before heading south to Agrigento |

Day 06
|
AGRIGENTO - CATANIA / ACIREALE
First we visit the Valley of Temples, the best example
of ancient Greek culture in Italy - then we drive to Agira
Canadian War Cemetery and we also visit the villages of
Leonforte and Valguarnera and pay a visit to Piazza Armerina,
all towns taken by Canadians after brief but heavy resistance
from Germans of the Hermann Goering Division - we then
head for the coast and settle into the resort town of Acireale,
near Catania |

Day 07
|
CATANIA / ACIREALE
Morning departure for the South Eastern part of Sicily
- visit the memorials of the 1st Canadian Division at Pachino
and at Ispica where the Canadians' involvement in Italy
started on July 10, 1943 - we then return to Siracusa for
a brief tour of the town before returning to Acireale for
dinner |
Day 08
|
CATANIA / ACIREALE
Morning tour to Taormina, Sicily's most beautiful town
- then in the afternoon drive up to the Mt. Etna Vulcano
and the village of Adrano, one of the last strongholds
to be taken before Messina - return to Acireale for a free
afternoon (it took 38 days to conquer Sicily as a preperation
to the invasion of Italy ) |
Day 09
|
CATANIA / ACIREALE -
ROME - MONTECASSINO - GAETA AREA
We catch our flight back to Rome - upon arrival we
travel south and climb the hill of Montecassino ( by
bus of course!) and visit the cemetery at the foot of
this stronghold - this strategic location was one of
the most fought over in all of Italy - then we we travel
past Pontecorvo to the Gulf of Gaeta nearby for our overnight |

Day 10
|
GAETA - NAPLES - POMPEI
- CAMPOBASSO - ORTONA/PESCARA
After passing by Naples we visit the excavations
of Pompei - we head inland and via Benevento to Campobasso
- then on to the Adriatic Coast and we end the day in
Ortona/Pesacara area |

Day 11
|
ORTONA/PESCARA
Morning ceremony at Moro River Cemetery - then we spend
a bit of time in Ortona, visiting a few of the important
sites like Casa Berardi and we also visit Sangro River
Cemetery (Commonwealth) and have some time in Pescara |
Day 12
|
PESCARA - URBINO - RIMINI
This morning we take off north, stopping in the medieval
town of Urbino - then we head to the seaside community
of Rimini - before arriving to Rimini we pay a visit to
the Montecchio Cemetery |
Day 13
|
RIMINI
Morning departure for Gradara and Corriano Ridge Cemeteries
- then in the afternoon we "climb" up to the
mountain Republic of San Marino, the world's oldest Republic!
before returning to Rimini |
Day 14
|
RIMINI
Today we visit Villanova, Cessena and Ravenna Cemeteries
- and you can also spend some time in Rimini itself, the
largest seaside resort along the Adriatic Coast |
Day 15
|
RIMINI - VENICE
After breakfast we depart for Venice where we take
a watertaxi into the city centre and enjoy the area around
Piazza San Marco and the Basilica - afterwards we check
into the hotel and have our farewell dinner |
Day 16
|
VENICE - CANADA
This morning we transfer to the airport for our flight
home where we arrive the same day |
